The change in seasons always brings with it new flavors and we are quenching our Spring fever thirst with an exciting wine from Spain’s Jumilla region, the 2015 Marcella White Wine. Jumilla is tucked away in the southeast corner of Spain and benefits from a dry Mediterranean climate, high elevation vineyards, and bountiful sunshine. This terruno is ideal for the region’s native Monastrell (aka Mourvedre) grape as well as the Marcella’s unique blend of 65% Chardonnay with 35% Moscatel. The dry climate helps impart an exotic expression of fruit to the Marcella while the limestone soils and high elevation contribute freshness and bright acidity.
Brilliant white gold in color, the Marcella’s nose leaps from the glass with vibrant notes of peach and jasmine. The palate starts with pulsing flavors of orange peel, Kaffir lime and minerality, a sure sign of the Moscatel’s influence. As the wine opens up the mouthfeel is creamier and rounder with a soft lemon tone from the Chardonnay. Finishes crisp and refreshing with a dash of citrus zest and lively acidity. A magical pairing for ceviche or a mango salad with grilled prawns.
