Fronsac is emerging from the shadows of neighboring Pomerol and Saint Emilion as a region to seek out for world class Merlot-based wine. We have long embraced the potential of this breathtaking region and it is a pleasure to share a great example of it with our 2014 Montesquieu Très Jolie Bordeaux. This classic blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon shows the plush velvety character of Merlot grown in a mixture of limestone and clay together with the added structure and firmness from Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep garnet color, the nose expresses a perfume of raspberry and potpourri with a faint hint of black truffle. The silky palate has dark cherry flavors wrapped in grilled herbs and spice with a caressing, effortless mouthfeel. The wine builds through the finish with a firm tannic backbone and notes of freshly tanned leather and damp earth. Approachable today, this should evolve over the next 7-8 years and be lovely every step of the way.
