The quiet commune of Savigny les Beaune resides between the hill of Corton and the bustling town of Beaune. Its sleepy location helps the region retain a low profile in the hierarchy of great Burgundy villages, but the savvy connoisseur knows not to overlook this gem. With its shallow reddish clay soils sprinkled with rocks and a late harvesting elevated exposure, the Aux Guettes premier cru vineyard within Savigny les Beaune is a poignant example of the region’s stunning terroir. The 2014 vintage treated this vineyard well, and we are delighted to showcase the fine results with our Marchand Bolnot Savigny les Beaune Aux Guettes.
Classic crimson in color, the nose offers a perfume of pomegranate and rhubarb laced with spice, damp earth, and black tea. Silken freshly cut strawberry and raspberry flavors flow on the palate effortlessly, leading to a firm yet forgiving tannin structure and nuances of lavender, forest floor, and black tea that persist for minutes through the finish. Lovely today, this classic example of premier cru terroir should evolve beautifully over the next 10-12 years if properly cellared.
