The 2014 Lorenzo Black Red Blend showcases everything we love about Paso Robles – powerful fruit, a grand expression of terroir, and the ability to stand the test of time. This blend will absolutely blow you away. A blend of 76% Sangiovese and 24% Barbera, two strong Italian varietals that bring their best attributes to the glass. These vines grow in the Templeton Gap of Paso Robles, where they have ideal conditions – they get plenty of warm sun, are cooled by ocean breezes, and the hillsides are made of layers of shale which drains well and challenges the root systems to dig deep, giving us not only fruit but great earthiness as well.
In the glass you are met with a crimson hue that is matched by aromas of dark berries, black cherry, some tobacco, and even some light notes of the kind of toasted oak you might find in a great whiskey. When you swirl it around in your mouth, the incredible flavors of roasted meats and earth are intense and play off one another perfectly. The finish is smooth, pleasant, and perfectly balanced. It’s fantastic alone and continues to grow when given the chance to open up and breathe. But to shows off its full potential, pair with Italian – maybe a slow briased osso bucco, a spaghetti bolognese, or even Mom’s lasagna.
