We have always loved working in Bordeaux, particularly with the rich silky Right Bank wines. And after a long two year hiatus we are thrilled to bring the region back to our portfolio with the 2014 Montesquieu L’Appel du Vide from Lalande de Pomerol. After three challenging years, the 2014 vintage offers a classic expression of Right Bank Bordeaux thanks to a sun-filled dry September that saved the growing season. 70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, these 40 year old vines planted in a clay and gravel mixture yielded beautiful fruit that favors elegance and complexity above all. Only 100 cases produced.
Deep crimson in color, the nose is perfumed with crushed violets, spiced red cherry, and an undertone of freshly tilled damp soil. Classic plum and licorice flavors define the silky palate, leading to a complex finish with hints of bay leaf and spice from the Cabernet Franc. Approachable today after decanting, the L’Appel du Vide should age and drink nicely over the next 8-10 years.
