It is an exciting moment for us to welcome Australian wine back to our portfolio with the 2014 Duruga Shiraz from the McLaren Vale region of South Australia. Long considered the epicenter of Australia’s top small production wine efforts, the Duruga represents the finest attributes of the McLaren Vale’s sunny, coastal terroir. 2014 required almost constant work in the vineyards to keep up with Mother Nature’s whim, but this low yielding vintage has produced a classic expression of Shiraz that showcases the richness, complexity, and finesse the region is best known for.
Deep glossy red in color, the nose expresses cherry liqueur and boysenberry with hints of freshly picked sage and mint. Bold flavors of roasted plum and licorice are accented by hints of cinnamon and white pepper, leading to a long finish with velvety tannin and bracing acidity that makes this broad shouldered powerful wine a pleasure to drink. The wine’s superb balance should allow for another 10-12 years of cellaring to further enhance the wine’s complexity.
