We are thrilled to offer you an approachable, delicious expression of Bordeaux with our 2014 Montesquieu Amour Fou from the Bordeaux Supérieur region. We have fallen for the elegant nature and mid weight fruit of the 2014 vintage and our Amour Fou is a lovely example of it. Far too often producers push their Bordeaux into tasting more like a New World wine and strip it of the character that makes the region so special. But ultimately when a bottle of Bordeaux delivers balance, complexity, and purity of fruit, its most important work has been done, and that is precisely what this wine offers.
Deep ruby in color, the nose is a mix of sweet licorice with hints of crushed herbs and spice. The palate combines rich plum and black cherry flavors together with classic notes of damp earth and freshly ground pepper, a telling representation of the 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Cabernet Franc final blend. The wine finishes with classic Right Bank elegance, the tannin is silky smooth with a soft velvety mouthfeel. This approachable style of Bordeaux drinks beautifully today and should evolve nicely over the next five years.
