Santa Barbara has never before had a Barbera with this kind of richness and complexity all at once before, even the very best from Italy don’t compare. You can thank the warm California sun and the fantastic 2013 vintage for making everything about this so special.
It all starts with the wine’s deep magenta color. As soon as you open the bottle you’re hit with an explosion of wild cherries, rose petals, and chocolate shavings, even a touch of browned meats and crushed fennel too. Then the palate comes at you with a rich velvety mouthfeel and brambly flavors of blackberry and raspberry. It’s delicious, and it sets you up for a classic Barbera finish with silky tannin, mouthwatering acidity, and nuances of dried cranberry, sandalwood, and spice. It’s great on its own but Barbera is probably the most food friendly red wine on the planet, so you can pair it up with anything and expect a great experience.
