Napa’s legendary 2013 growing season has given us the opportunity to produce our most thrilling California Cabernets to date. From high atop the legendary Pritchard Hill region we sourced the ideal fruit for one of our favorite wines, the Morpheus Napa Valley Cabernet. One of Napa’s true ‘Grand Cru’ sites, Pritchard Hill’s thin red volcanic soils and high elevation are the ideal terroir for a powerful, exotic expression of Cabernet with remarkable aging potential. The warm, dry harvest brought out the very best from this steep south facing plot of 15 year old Cabernet vines and helped us create a wine for the ages.
Deep glossy eggplant in color, generous aromas of cassis, sage, graphite, and espresso gain complexity as the wine gathers air. The palate shows incredible depth and rich flavors of blackberry and dark chocolate atop a bold intense tannin structure. The tannin endures long into the finish and carries soulful nuances of melted licorice, black cherry and spice. A stunning experience today after ample aeration, the Morpheus promises a wonderful evolution over the next 15-20 years.
