The Napa Valley has had its fair share of great vintages in the past but it appears its very finest hour to date has arrived with the thrilling wines of the 2013 vintage. The year’s dry weather and cool consistent temperatures gave producers an early harvest, one with the perfect combination of naturally low yielding powerful fruit and stratospheric levels of tannin and acidity. Our 2013 Merrick Meritage captures all the great attributes of 2013 from the volcanic soils of Howell Mountain. A final blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Malbec, and 18% Merlot, the Merrick delivers on the promise of 2013’s potential.

Blackish purple in color, the nose evolves through floral nuances of rose and violets to reveal more savory mushroom, damp earth and dark chocolate. Lush and dense on the palate, blackberry and cassis flavors meld with hints of cocoa powder and peppercorn with impeccable balance and purity of flavor. The bold tannin is smartly veiled with the gentle caress of the Merlot fruit and the wine’s refreshing acidity that makes this towering wine already a pleasure to drink. Best after several hours of aeration, the Merrick promises many years of splendid drinking are ahead of it.
