We are proud to share with you a wine that we feel is our grandest expression of Napa Valley terroir – the Sorada Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. First produced in 2005 and only made in particularly excellent vintages, the 2012 harvest presented us with the opportunity to create a breathtaking wine, one that is as remarkable for its power as it is for its complexity. 2012’s long, dry growing season was tempered with rain and intensified by heat at all the right moments, allowing us to assemble our favorite mountain vineyard parcels from Oakville, Spring Mountain and above Lake Hennessey for a bold and concentrated yet precise and refined wine.
Deep magenta in color, the nose greets you with aromas of melted licorice and cassis mixed with dark chocolate. With aeration the aromatics deepen to include graphite, damp earth, and espresso. The wine impresses with its rich core of roasted plum and blackberry flavors and a firm tannic backbone. The power and beauty of the 2012 vintage is on full display as the wine reveals hints of pipe tobacco and new leather in the long sultry finish.
A pleasure to drink today, we suggest a minimum of two hours in the decanter for the wine’s aromatics to blossom and the bold structure to become more generous. With proper storage the 2012 Sorada should develop beautifully over the next 12-15 years and continue to impress for many years after.
