We are thrilled to present our sixth vintage of our flagship Napa Valley wine – the 2011 Montesquieu Derenoncourt Meritage. This wine represents our relentless commitment to working with the finest Napa Valley vineyards together with one of the world’s top winemaking talents, Stephane Derenoncourt. Of the hundreds of wines we have carefully sourced for our clients over our twenty five year history, this Napa Valley project is the first we have ever chosen to carry our name. From the cool vintage of 2011, Napa’s latest harvest in 116 years, this blend of 52% Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon and 48% Merlot from the Stagecoach Vineyard in Atlas Peak should delight tasters for many years to come.
Glossy crimson in color, the nose evolves slowly to reveal earthy black cherry, cigar box, and smoky sage. The palate carries rich velvety flavors of mulberry and blueberry with heightened nuances of spice and a mouth-coating tannin structure. The bold tannin asserts itself through the finish together with ample flavors of espresso, dark chocolate and mushroom notes. The magnum format for this wine is just starting to show its potential. Best served today after two hours of aeration, the wine should develop further complexity and elegance over the next ten years.
