High above the valley floor and fog line the Howell Mountain AVA is home to Napa’s most cherished terroir for the production of ageworthy, structured reds. Best known for its long track record of success with Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel, well situated Cabernet Franc shines from this appellation as well with a level of sophistication and complexity all its own.

The 2009 Derenoncourt California Cabernet Franc is a textbook example of the grape’s finest virtues and potential from this magical terroir, delivering black cherry, damp earth and espresso aromas and a luscious silken mouthfeel with flavors of cassis and melted licorice. The high elevation and unique soil composition of the region contributes to the wine’s ultra-fine tannin and long savory finish with persistent flavors of wild blue fruits, leather, and a peppered meats. We adore this varietal and vineyard and feel this wine is a reference point for what Napa Valley Cabernet Franc can achieve.
