It is a wonderful day when we have the opportunity to offer a beautifully cellared 12 year old wine from one of the wine world’s greatest talents. The 2004 Bonne Nouvelle is a lovely red blend from South Africa’s Stellenbosch region made by the one and only Michel Rolland. Born in the tiny Right Bank Bordeaux village of Pomerol, Michel’s career has brought him all over the world to work on the very best wines. The warm dry climate and terroir of Stellenbosch is well suited to Michel’s style of winemaking and it has given him the ideal canvas to produce this stirring blend of 62% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 6% Pinotage.

After a decade of age the wine has retained a deep glossy crimson color. The nose is forward with nuances of sweet blackberry jam complemented by hints of vanilla, barbecued meats, and fruitcake. Luscious and intense on the palate, the rich flavors of cassis and melted licorice are beautifully accented by hints of roasted herbs and coffee. After a decade in the cellar the muscular tannin structure has softened to reveal a more elegant frame and delightful nuances of worn leather, earth, and spice. Beautiful on its own but best served alongside a grilled rack of Lamb.
