The summer heat calls for a more refreshing and invigorating approach to wine drinking, one that is best served by the many delicious attributes of the Riesling grape. Its inherent sweetness and complexity bring pleasure with every sip, especially from a rare, late harvest treasure like the wine we present to you today, the 2012 Philipp Horn Alzyer Römerberg Riesling Auslese.

Pale white gold in color, the nose bursts with aromas of honey-dipped apple and white peach. On the palate is the richness and weight of a late harvest botrytized wine, complemented by decadent flavors of pear and tropical fruits with undertones of zested lemon. A naturally high acidity cuts through the wine’s sweetness in the finish to bring freshness and balance along with nuances of dried apricot, mango, and orange blossom. The wine has cellared nicely and should continue to gain complexity over the next 5-7 years. Extremely versatile at the table, this Auslese drinks beautifully alongside desserts such as peach cobbler and pineapple upside down cake, a cheese plate featuring aged hard cheeses, or even spicy grilled Ahi Tuna marinated with wasabi-ginger soy sauce.
