2006 Don Zofanor Syrah, Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza

A powerful wine that combines the regal complexity of the Old World with the punch and richness found in the best of Mendoza's high elevation reds.  This purple-hued wine reveals a nose of roasted meats, pepper, and currant before the palate explodes with chocolate-covered espresso beans and black fruits.  The dark, brawny flavors stain the palate and slowly give way to a sultry finish complete with hints of leather, smoke, and dried herbs.
